Teachers and Education

Our educational programming at the Jefferson County Historical Society has long been one of the priorities of our organization. Offering different types of educational programs thrughout the year is our way of sharing our rich county hsitory with the next generation.

Annual Programs

Student Art Show - features art from the students of area public and private schools.

Heritage Days - a hands-on experience for 4th grade students cosponsored with other local history-centered organizations.

Summer History Camp - a fun, week-long camp offering a variety of hands-on experiences bringing life to our local history.

In-classroom & Museum Programs

The Railroad and the River - learn about how steamboats and railroads helped develop early Indiana.

The Underground Railroad - learn about the importance of the underground railroad in Jefferson County.

It's Amazing - learn about the importance of corn, hogs and starch in early Indiana.

All programs include a reproducible packet and materials used during the program. Appropriate books and/or videos are loaned to the participating class. The cost of the in-classroom visit or the museum visit is $2.00 per student and chaperone for in-county schools and $3.00 per student and chaperone for out-of-couonty schools. Teachers are free of charge.
