RIVER TO RAILS
The story of Madison’s transportation history from its early steamboat days to the heyday of railroads is told in vintage photographs and interesting stories. This is a collaborative project of the Jefferson County Historical Society and the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library.
PUBLIC LIBRARY LOCAL HISTORY DEPARTMENT
The Madison-Jefferson County Public Library Local History & Genealogy Dept. has an outstanding collection of research material relating to Jefferson County and Madison history. Also available on this website are many historic Madison photographs from the Harry Lemen Photo Collection.
BOB SCOTT’S HISTORY BLOG
Historian Bob Scott has written over 35 fascinating articles about a variety of Jefferson County historical subjects. Scott is writing a comprehensive history of Jefferson County which will soon be published, and these articles were a result of the extensive research he has done for the book.
FIRST HAND MADISON BLOG
A series of first-hand accounts written by early visitors to Madison telling of their observations and impressions of the young town. Also in this collection of over 50 blog entries compiled by Bob Scott, are many other interesting Madison stories.
MADISON – EAST OF FERRY
Before Madison was founded, there was a small settlement just east of Ferry Street. This excellent blog website tells the history of the people and places in the area of our community east of the Madison-Milton Bridge.
JPG HERITAGE
The Jefferson Proving Ground Heritage Partnership website tells the story of JPG and of the sacrifice and contributions rendered by ordinary people in defense of our nation.
