GM-0002 City Tax Assessors Books; 1837 – 1905.
Collection contains bound ledger books prepared by the City of Madison Tax Assessor, listing all eligible taxpayers living in Madison, a description of real property owned, and the assessed valuation. These records are valuable for determining when buildings in Madison were constructed.
GC-0009 Early County Assessor Records 1827 – 1834.
These records, which have been scanned and indexed on a computer CD, provide land ownership information for some early years in Jefferson County’s history.
GC-0005 Clerk of Circuit Court Records
Collection contains some of the earliest records of Jefferson County that were filed with the Circuit Court. Included is the first Clerk’s Book (1811-1814).
GC-0008 Sheriff’s Office Records
A valuable research document in collection is the Sheriff's Journal for 1814 – 1815, which listed in detail the taxes collected from Jefferson County property owners and the location of their property.
