Fauna Mihalko Genealogy Files Collection# MC-0004
This collection contains the genealogy research files of Fauna Mihalko, who was employed for many years by the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library as the local history librarian and genealogy researcher.

City of Madison Death Records Collection# GM-0001
Collection contains the death certificates and burial permits that were issued for deaths occurring in the City of Madison from 1879 through 1905. An INDEX of the death records in this collection can be viewed at Ruth and Brad Hoggatt’s Jefferson County Genealogy Website. Note that if a name does not appear in this index, we do not have it in the collection.
Family History Files.
Genealogy and family history information from various sources including numerous family histories contributed by local families. An index to the contents of the Family History Files can be viewed by clicking on the Online Index on the left side of this page.
Cemetery Records Collection# MC-0029
Collection includes the original lists of persons buried in each Jefferson County Cemetery as compiled by the John Paul Chapter of the D.A.R. in their 1941 cemetery survey. There are also various detailed listings compiled by churches and other organizations. A COMPLETE LISTING of the contents of the cemetery records in this collection can be viewed at Ruth and Brad Hoggatt’s Jefferson County Genealogy Website.
Ryker-Riker Historical Society Collection# MC-0047
Collection consists of the extensive genealogy files that were compiled by members of the Ryker-Riker Historical Society, and includes information on many other Jefferson County families who were related to the Rykers.
D.A.R. – John Paul Chapter Collection# MC-0005
Collection of organization records includes approximately 200 genealogy research files created when genealogy research requests were submitted to the Chapter in connection with membership applications. Most of these files were created by researchers Mary Hill and Anna Laura Peddie.
Estate Inventory Records Collection# GC-0015
Collection consists of 16 ledger books containing detailed listings of the estate inventories taken for the probating of deceased persons estates. Listings include contents of the deceased person’s house (furniture, clothing, etc.), as well as the real estate and financial holdings of the deceased.

Early Marriage Records Collection# GC-0013
Collection contains a very incomplete series of marriage records for early Jefferson County marriages. Records include:
AFFIDAVITS – Statements of parental consent for underage applicants, or statements vouching for identity and residency of applicants.
LICENSES – Hand written or printed license forms authorizing the marriage to be performed.
RETURNS – Certifications that marriage ceremony was performed, with date and minister’s name.
NOTE: Most entries do not have all three types of records.
Collection is random, and the most frequent records are for the period of 1856 – 1859.
