The Railroad and the River
The Railroad and the River gives students a look at Madison’s history with steamboats and early trains. Students will take a tour of the recently re-painted caboose and learn about lantern signals. In the restored 1895 depot, students will learn about how standard time came about, meet “Charlie” the stationmaster, use a telegraph machine to send Morse code and see artifacts from early train trips. In the museum, students will participate in a trivia game that combines facts learned during the visit and those learned with the pre-visit packet. This packet is provided when teachers make a reservation. Books are provided pre-visit. Books are to be returned.
